make me a sandwich
I waited a week for this sandwich.
Last weekend my family came to Savannah for an iceskating trip and we visited a beloved restaurant for lunch. My cousin ordered a sandwich and it showed up with toasty bread, avocado, alfalfa sprouts and who-knows-what else.
In my imagination it had a tomatoey layer and a good amount of garlic, along with, hopefully, a melted cheese.
Sometimes an idea won't leave your head no matter how you try, and it's for a good reason. In this case, the persistence was well worth it.
What we ended up with is a sandwich, toasty, melty, spicy, creamy, crunchy.
Homemade whole-grain bread. Smashed roasted garlic cloves. Windowsill oregano. Pepper jack cheese. My favorite pasta sauce. Avocado, sliced and with sea salt. Alfalfa sprouts from my own kitchen [hence, the week-long wait].
So many favorites. So little bread-space.
Follow, please, with a bit of chocolate- in my case, a homemade bar full of crystallized ginger and walnuts- and your favorite hot tea. And a book. Always a book.

YUM! We must be on the same brainwave! I have a jar of sprouts on the windowsill now and have been dreaming of avocado-y, tomato-y, garlic-y goodness too!
yum!! that looks like the perfect sandwich to me. i love the idea of using pasta sauce. i think it's time i switch up my routine turkey/cheese/lettuce/avocado sandwich. this sounds much more interesting.
Looks good, with all the wholesome greens! I'd love zucchini in it :D
happy belly.
